Dozens of Coastal Bend Cub Scouts will converge at the Corpus Christi International Airport, Saturday, October 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a day full of fun and learning.
The scouts will get the opportunity to climb aboard General Aviation aircraft and specially designed aircraft firefighting trucks. “This is a perfect opportunity for kids to get a close up look at some of the things that fascinate them the most. They love airplanes and fire trucks and we want to foster that interest,” said John Hyland, Chief of Public Safety at CCIA. Hyland has enlisted the help of the Del Mar College Aviation Program, the American Red Cross, Driscoll Children’s Hospital Medical Air Service and the local HAM Shortwave Radio Group.
The event will be held in Del Mar College’s newly renovated aviation hangar at CCIA. The best time for media coverage will be around 10:00 a.m. At this time, the Cub Scouts will be broken up in to teams and will be actively engaged in climbing about the airplanes and fire trucks. The Del Mar hangar is located on Glasson Road behind the airport maintenance facility. From the main road (International Drive) – take a left on Glasson Road and drive straight to the Del Mar facility on the right.
