Since the inception of The Learning Institute in June 2014 we have made education assistance a priority. After program review of the past 3 years of fund utilization at the City of Corpus Christi, the Learning Institute team found that on average only 55% of the tuition reimbursement funds were ever utilized for employee reimbursements, with a maximum utilization of 62% in Fiscal Year 2013.
The Learning Institute team has used various methods, including email messages, face to face group presentations and one-on-one career coaching sessions with employees to promote the program to those who did not know the program was available to them. As a result, as of December 29, 2014, the employee education assistance program budget is maxed out at 100% utilization for Fiscal Year 2015.
“Our goal at The Learning Institute is to ensure that we are providing as much support as possible to our employees so that they can pursue further educational opportunities with little disruption to their finances.”, said Liza Wisner, Manager of the Learning Institute.
As a result of this, any future requests for fiscal year 2015 (October 2014 – September 2015) for education assistance submitted after December 29, 2014 will be placed on a waiting list. If funds become available, we will process those requests accordingly, but we would like to advise all employees that we have no more funds available for fiscal year 2015.
This is a great opportunity to consider increasing the education assistance budget, so we encourage all employees to continue to send in their requests, as we will keep track and be able to report on how many employees we were not able to support due to the now limited funds in the budget.
