Wednesday was the City of Corpus Christi’s Inaugural Employee of the Year Celebration! The Great Gatsby themed event kicked off at 3:00 PM with the sounds of sultry jazz music, refreshments, and delicious appetizers. The event honored several City employees and departments for their contributions in customer service and educational achievement.
The event was put together by Corpus Christi’s The Learning Institute, and presented by Liza Wisner, Learning and Development Manager. “We’ve been working so hard at the Learning Institute to develop an environment for the City of Corpus Christi’s employees where they feel recognized, and I couldn’t be happier with the turn out today,” said Wisner. The introduction continued with welcome and praise given by Yasmine Chapman, Human Resources Director. “I’m very excited about this program and of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our City Manager,” said Chapman.
The award ceremony began by recognizing educational achievement, which acknowledged any City employee who had received a diploma or degree from an accredited college or university. Recognition also went to City departments which had participated in the first ever City Champions Program, which encourages learning and development by offering several courses on how to become a champion for the City of Corpus Christi.
The moment everyone had been waiting for had arrived. The Employee of the Year winner was about to be announced. Amanda Howard, Danni Alcantara, Mary Ann Reedy, and Sandra Rodriguez all shared their individual reactions to their nomination, as well as offering their advice to other City employees on how to reach this honor.
Finally, after a highly anticipated race, Amanda Howard was announced as Corpus Christi’s Employee of the Year. She was joined by family, friends, and colleagues as she received this great honor. “Thank you, I love my job,” Howard replied as she accepted her award.
The event wrapped up with closing remarks made by City Manager, Ron Olson. “It’s all about performance and getting the job done in the most professional, customer service friendly way possible,” said Olson.
The first annual Employee of the Year celebration took place Wednesday afternoon at the American Bank Center Arena.
