“How can you find the job of your dreams if you don’t even know it exists?”  This is the motto of H.E.L.P. – The Hammons Education Leadership Program which recently brought a group of young people to City Hall for a tour.  The group started their tour by meeting the Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn Vaughn as well as Councilman Michael Hunter who encouraged the teens to pursue their dreams. To showcase the diversity of jobs here at the City, the group toured all of City Hall with specific stops at five locations.  At the Print Shop, employee Brooks Hooper, explained why the City has its own print shop, highlighted the different products they produce, and discussed the importance of on the job safety.  Their next stop was the Studio where the students had some fun with the green screen as employee Eva Padilla explained the equipment, uses of the studio, and job possibilities within the Communications Department.  Parks and Recreation was the third stop on their tour where employee Lisa Oliver shared the great variety of jobs offered through the Parks and Recreation Department.  The group then gathered on the fifth floor for a special meeting with the City Manager.  Mrs. Rose shared with the students her belief that they can accomplish great things with their lives and even encouraged them to aim to be City Manager one day! Finally, the tour ended where their journey at the City can begin, Human Resources.  Employee Jennifer Berkich gave the students an overview of how to apply for a job with the City and explained the qualifications that the City looks for in its employees.  This tour was a wonderful opportunity to educate young people on the extensive types of jobs and careers available here at the City.  Mr. Hammons said it best in his note of thanks, “By letting us experience what you do, you may have become part of someone’s future.”
