We would like to thank everyone for your continued efforts towards the success of the City of Corpus Christi.Fiscal Year 2014 has been a great year of recognition. Congratulations to each and every Employee of the Quarter nominee and the winners for Fiscal Year 2014.
We need your help in voting for the 2014 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR at the City of Corpus Christi.  Please review our nominees’ information and then vote below.

1st Quarter Winner: Danni Alcantara
Danni Alcantara is the Kennel Master for Animal Care Services. During the Rachael Ray 100K Challenge, Danni worked her regular schedule, and also volunteered her own time to assist PAAC with adoptions in the evenings and weekends. She sacrificed family time to give her coworkers and helpless animals her 110%. Danni was the heart and soul of the Rachael Ray Challenge and served as the cheerleader to keep both staff and volunteers uplifted. She reached out by networking and saved as many animals as she could find. Her upbeat attitude inspired the fatigued, overburdened staff and volunteers. Her initiative to take the ball and run with it was unmatched. She was always ahead of the game and forward thinking. Danni often would take the initiative to contact local rescues, and volunteers for special projects during the adoption events in order to ease the stress of staff. Her thoughtfulness, initiative, clear communication, volunteerism, customer service and positive attitude are what led our team to coming in 5th in the nation during the contest.
2nd Quarter Winner: Mary Ann Reedy
Mary Ann Reedy has been with the Engineering Services Department as the “smiling face” of the front desk for just over one year. During that time her professionalism and first rate customer service have helped the department align with the goal of transitioning the departmental culture from project ownership to a client orientated service” Besides her assigned duties of managing the daily influx of phone calls, messages, in-person requests, and mail, she keeps up with project plans and spec books, plan deposits, bidder’s lists and other functions of a professional engineering department. Although Mary Ann performs her job at an exceptional level with a positive attitude, it’s the extra step she goes to assist her fellow City employees and the citizens of Corpus Christi that make her stand out as an exemplary example and role model worth of recognition of City Employee of the Quarter. Right after joining the City of Corpus Christi, Mary Ann joined the City Assistance Team (CAT) and rolled her sleeves up to make a difference. She is now Co-Chair of CAT and has led the team in raising money for the United Way of Oklahoma Tornado Victims, ALS, Driscoll Hospital Miracle Jeans benefit and the annual George Evans Elementary School Children’s Christmas. As CAT celebrates its 50th year in existence, Mary Ann is helping to expand the program even more. This year’s Christmas experience grew from shopping for shoes with the kids to working with the school counselors to provide wrapped presents, a visit with Santa, cookies, and punch at City Hall! She encourages other employees to give their time to CAT, and mentors them in volunteer activities. Outside of CAT team, Mary Ann crossed the Engineering door to team up with employees from other departments and organized gatherings and fund raisers for Relay for Life, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. While Mary Ann firmly believes in the needs to assist her friends and community, she also understands the commitment and responsibility her job requires from her. That is why you will see Mary Ann at the office late at nights, and on weekends. She spends her time planning these events not during her “eight to five” responsibilities, but her selfless work for others starts after five and on Saturdays.
3rd Quarter Winner: Sandra Rodriguez
For the third quarter of the Fiscal Year 2014, Sandra Rodriguez is the Environmental and Strategic Initiatives employee that sets the standard for innovation, exceptional customer service, hard work and positive attitude. Sandra has an enthusiastic “ how can I help you” attitude and a keen eye for detail that kept our office moving on schedule in a well-organized manner. Her exemplary work ethic, professionalism, and first rate customer service have helped the department transitioning under the reorganization of the Planning and Environmental Services department into Environmental and Strategic Initiatives. She is always willing to assist in any capacity and learn what is needed to do the job. Sandra’s assistance in developing innovative ideas was key to the successful development of the newly formed and reorganized department business plan, budget, and mission. She continually assists with improving standard departmental practices and has provided invaluable input in the Fiscal year 2015 Capital Improvement Program. Sandra is the initial point of contact for internal and external customers. She networks with various departments to set up meetings, develop agendas, take and transcribe minutes. Other assigned duties include managing the daily influx of phone calls, messages, in-person requests, mail distribution and, she keeps up with the project plans and spec. books, plans deposits, bidder’s lists, and other functions of a professional engineering department. Sandra performs her job at an exceptional level with a positive attitude, and it’s the extra step she goes to assist her fellow City employees.
4th Quarter Winner: Amanda Howard
Amanda Howard has worked diligently on educating our community about the negative impacts of Stormwater pollution since she began her career with the City of Corpus Christi in 2008. She has personally shared the message of Stormwater pollution prevention, litter prevention, and recycling with more than 51,000 students, teachers, parents and community members at large. She has conducted over 200 presentations on Stormwater and participated in over 225 exhibits at community events to share this message. She has also worked with volunteer organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, and the Surf rider Foundation and school science clubs to coordinate placing “No Dumping” medallions on over 468 stormwater inlets, along with pollutions prevention door hangers on nearly 2,020 homes. Mrs. Howard performs much of this work education the community evenings and weekends, and always with a very positive attitude. Her passion for the message of protecting our beaches, bays, and estuaries shows in everything she does, as evidenced by her work ethic and attitude. Mrs. Howard is continuously seeking ways to improve the stormwater education and outreach program, researching ideas used around the United States to more effectively communicate the value of clean stormwater runoff and its importance to public health and the economy. In addition to her excellent service to external, customers, Mrs. Howard excels in her service to internal customers. She has become an integral part of the City’s United Way Campaign, serving on the Campaign Committee for the past 5 years. She also has served as a vital part of the Storm Water and Streets Department Safety Improvement Team. Her role on the safety improvement team insured employee training, health and safety concerns were properly vetted with management, providing a bridge between administrative staff and field personnel.
