This Thursday, Fire Chief Robert Rocha will recognize several firefighters and a civilian for their efforts in saving the life of a local citizen.
On July 6, 2014, a 60 year old man experienced a sudden cardiac emergency at a gym while working out. Two off duty firefighters and a nurse were nearby and witnessed the man in distress. They began performing CPR and used an on-scene defibrillator to restore the victims’ normal heart rhythm. By the time medics arrived, the man was alert and conscious thanks to the group’s quick emergency action in rendering aid.
For their actions Firefighter II Engineer Charles Miller, Firefighter II Paramedic Curtis Meeks
and Firefighter II Paramedic Fermin Chapa will receive the Corpus Christi Fire Department
Life Saving Award. Civilian Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Rosemary Fries will be honored
with the department’s Citizen Certificate of Merit.
The event will take place Thursday, September 18th, at 4:30 p.m. at the Fire Department Headquarters located at 2406 Leopard Street.
