Fellow City Champions, we have a Master’s Degree scholarship deadline coming up on Thursday, December 5, 2019.
Bringing the dream of a post-baccalaureate education closer to reality is what the City of Corpus Christi Employee Education Assistance Program helps fund. As the cost to attend colleges and universities continue to rise, the City supports a range of opportunities to ensure our employees have the chance to pursue higher education.
The total annual award is $4,000 per employee. ($2,000 contributed by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and $2,000 contributed by The City of Corpus Christi education assistance program).
One of our employees, Marie ‘Odette’ Cruz is a previous recipient and graduate of the program. Odette is a Senior Human Resources Analyst at the City of Corpus Christi. We sat down with her to hear about her experience. Here is an excerpt from the interview:
Team LearningCC: Odette, Thank you for taking the time to visit with us about your graduate school experience. Tell us, how was it going through the Master’s in Public Administration program?
Marie ‘Odette’ Cruz: The program itself is designed well to give a good breadth of study for the public service profession. The professors are knowledgeable and have a wealth of experience from which to learn. Going through the program was a serious time commitment, but well worth the effort to complete.
Team LearningCC: Thank you for that answer. What did you learn in the program?
Marie ‘Odette’ Cruz: The program’s curriculum is, of course, highly applicable to my career at the City of Corpus Christi. I learned about the history and background information of employment laws, as well as finance and budgeting, and research and performance evaluation methodology. All of these subjects are constantly relevant in my career in Human Resources.
Team LearningCC: GREAT! Thank you very much for your time, Odette!
