7th Annual Coastal Bend Walk for Memory event.
The Walk for Memory Kickoff Celebration will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Plaza at Mirador, 5857 Timbergate Drive.
The 7th Annual Walk for Memory event is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Heritage Park, 1581 North Chaparral Avenue from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The goal of the walk is to generate funding for respite and other support services for Alzheimer’s disease patients and their families. All proceeds remain in the Coastal Bend. Event organizers hope to generate greater public awareness of National Family Caregivers Month and to recognize those who care for their loved ones 24/7 throughout the year.
The event will include a 2 mile fitness walk; Information booths: Health Screenings; Entertainment; Awards and Door Prizes. Awards will be presented for the following categories: Oldest & Youngest Walker, Most Spirited Team, Top Individual & Corporate Team Donors. Donations may also be made in honor of a loved one. A Cherished Memories commemoration will also be held. A new focus this year is the High School Spirit Challenge to bring added awareness about the impacts of Alzheimer’s disease on youth and family caregivers. Mayor Nelda Martinez will conduct the opening ceremonies at the November 1st event.
Community partners for this event include the Area Agency on Aging of the Coastal Bend, Face to Face – Nestor H. Praderio, MD and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Del Mar College and the Caregiver SOS Center.
Those wishing to participate in the walk may complete a registration form at www.ccparkandrec.com. For a donation of $50 or more, each walker is eligible to receive a T-Shirt commemorating the walk. Team registrations are also encouraged.
